Raymond Carver

I read Raymond Carver's short story "little things". I did not like it mostly because although Carver left the ending up to the reader's imagination, it had a very grotesque and dark insinuation. Even though he does not write it, at the end of the story it is implied that the baby is ripped in half or undergoes some other similar injury according to the sentence,"In this manner the issue was decided." This was a very shocking way to "solve" the problem in the story and although I did not like it, I appreciate how subtly Carver brought it on. He definitely succeeded in using the element of surprise to throw the reader off.
